This weekend me and Mrs. Geek were in Vienna. (Incidentally, that is why there was no week in geek) Now of course we had a reason to be there: the Hollywood in Vienna gala honoring Alexandre Desplat, the composer of the soundtrack of Monuments Men and Imitation Game. The maestro was there and received the Max Steiner award for achievements in movie music.
The composer also got a nice reception at the American embassy in Vienna:
The concert itself is a near perfect show if you are into movie music. Where the performance of Hans Zimmer was like a rock concert, this was like the classical Viennese music concerts of old. Everybody was dressed up and ready to not post any video’s on Youtube ;-).
However as the Austrian TV has a habit of taping these performances, you can enjoy them too. Here is a short list of the versions that you can view:
2016: Sound of Space
2015: Tales of Mystery
2014: Comedy Tonight
2013: A tribute to James Horner
2012: Thrilling Moments
