Germany

Germany, or the Bundesrepublik Deutschland, is a central European country in the heart of Europe. It is a modern country with friendly people who are sticklers for punctuality and made an art form of sticking to ‘the rules’.

The major cities (and destinations) are the capital Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Frankfurt.

Trains

The infrastructure for travelers in Germany is excellent. By now you know that I love traveling by train and Germany has an excellent rail network. Though it might not be always as punctual as most germans would like, it’s clean, extensive and reasonably priced.

Planes

Germany has many modern airports dotted around the country with good connections to the rest of the world. The largest airports can be found near the major cities of Germany: Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich and Dusseldorf. There are many more relatively large airports around the country and international and intercontinental connections are common.

The national airline Lufthansa is a full service airline and has good connections around the world.

Automobiles

Germany has several large car manufacturers within its borders. Names like Volkswagen, Mercedes, and BMW might just ring a bell with you. Germany is proud of these companies and they have a prominent place in german life. It stands to reason then that the road network is excellent and extensive. As with many other European countries, traffic jams are common during rush hour.

As I am not a driver, I will point you to other sites that will say more about the driving experience in Germany.

What I can tell you is that Germany has an extensive network of long distance busses. Companies driving these busses are IC Bus, Blabla bus and Flixbus. The busses are cheap, relatively fast, and form a decent alternative to train trips.

Local busses and streetcars are common and add to the excellent public transport network in Germany as a whole. It makes it easy and cheap to move around the country.
